Charles C. Abel, Jr., 66, of York and Long Neck, Del., died of natural causes Sunday morning, June 15, 2003 at his home. He was the companion for 21 years of Barbara A. (Markey) Fake. Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing. The Geiple Funeral Home, Inc. 53 Main Street, Glen Rock, is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Abel was born on September 11, 1936 in Glen Rock and was a son of the late Charles C. and Jennie R. (Amspacher) Abel. He was currently employed as a machine operator with Handy Gas in York and had worked in maintenance with Smith Village in Jacobus and had worked for 27 years with the former Continental Wire and Cable Company in York. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member of the West York Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, the Oak Orchard/Riverdale American Legion Post in Del., the Am Vets, Millsboro, Del. and the Prince Athletic Club, York. He also leaves three children, Cathy S. Campbell of Seven Valleys, Daniel Rockwell of New Bridgeville and Dawn G. Thompson of Stewartstown; three stepchildren, Denise M. Calaman of Dover, Kevin W. Fake of Dallastown and Erin E. Fake of West York; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Norman E. Abel of Wrightsville, John A. Abel of Glen Rock, William D. Abel of Felton; and two sisters, Dorothy Cave of San Diego, Calif. and Belinda Butcher of York. A brother, Kenneth L. Abel is deceased.
