daughter of Martin & Mary (Heizer) Bridwell

married 21 Jun 1861, Des Moines Co., IA to Milton Jamison Seeds

Children: Minnie A, Martha L "Mattie", Mark Judson, & Nellie Meyers Seeds.

Ref: 17 Feb. 1912, Mediapolis New Era, Mediapolis, IA -- Sophia P. Bridwell was born in Ross County, Ohio, May 4, 1839, and died at her residence in Mediapolis, IA, February 12th, 1912, being at the time of her death 72 years, 9 months, and 8 days of age.

She moved with her parents to this neighborhood when a child of 3 years of age, so that almost her entire life has been spent in and about this vicinity.

She was united in marriage to M. J. Seeds in June, 1861. To them were born four children, one son and three daughters. Two of the daughters passed on before the Mother, one in early childhood and one about the age of 15 years. The two who remain are Mrs. Paul Lischer, of this place, and Mark J. Seeds, who for some time past has made his home near Hanston, KS.

She was converted when a child and joined the Presbyterian Church at Kossuth, Iowa, but when she was married she united with the Methodist Church at Kossuth, with her husband, and later they were transferred to the church at Mediapolis, IA in which church Mrs. Seeds has lived a consistent and devoted Christian life.

For the past fifteen years she has been an invalid, and deprived of much church privileges, though her faith in her God remained firm to the last.

On the 21st of December 1911, she had the misfortune to fall and break her hip bone, from the shock of which injury she never recovered but gradually grew worse until the end came. The family were all present when she quietly slipped away.

Her loyalty to her country was shown by her willingness for her young husband to enlist as a soldier, when they had been married only about three months. She was a loving wife, a devoted Mother and beloved by all that knew her.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist Church, on Wednesday, February 14th, 1912, at 1:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. G. G. Bruce.

And thus passes away from among us another of the old settlers. Interment in the Kossuth cemetery.

A goodly number of old soldiers attended the funeral in a body. (listed at the request of [email protected])
