Etta is the daughter of Isaac Henry Downs and Sarah (Conklin) Downs. She was one of 6 children born to them.
She married Capt. William Louis Conant in 1871 in Huntington, New York and soon after they moved to Colorado where William's parents and several siblings had settled.
Etta and William together had 5 children: Etta Downs, Frank W, William L, Jr., Mina P, and Ross Douglas Conant.
Etta was widowed in 1900, and remarried 5 Sept 1911 in Colorado Springs to John H Cornwell, a widower. They moved to Gregory, So. Dakota in 1920, along with grandsons, Fred and Frank Smart. Etta died at age 76, and is believed to be buried in Gregory, Gregory, So. Dakota. John died a year later in Akron, Ohio at the home of one of his children.
