NEW ULM REVIEW April 27,1892
Death claimed another of New Ulm's old settlers last week in the person of Wm. Emmerich, who died at his home on Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock.
Mr. Emmerich was born in Germany on the 10th of June 1838. He came to America with his parents when a mere child and was brought by them to Wisconsin when only 5 years of age. When he had arrived at the age of twenty he came to New Ulm and resided here until the time of his death. He was married when quite young and became the father of 6 children.
The funeral was held under the auspices of the A.O.U.W. and was largely attended.

William Emmerich's date of birth is listed as June 10, 1838 in the newspaper obituary, but his birthdate on the gravestone monument is engraved as June 15, 1838. I am using the date found on the stone for his Findagrave memorial page name & date header at the top of the page.

Hello! According to the book "OFB Hambuch - Kaifenheim of U. Buchholz, 2014" Anna Spitzley Emmerich's (and Franz Emmerich's) son Wilhelm was born Nov 9, 1836. She had access to the old churchbooks of Hambuch, where Wilhelm was baptised. So, either this William here is connected to the wrong mother or the given birthdates are incorrect.

Response Note from S Hemingway: I believe that the birth date on the gravestone & in the obituary may be incorrect. A census record in Brown Co. in 1857 states William is 21 years of age which would indicate a birth year of 1836. There is an Ancestry tree that states birth date is 11/9/1936...however other trees show the date of 5/15/1938...probably getting their info from the gravestone date. For now I am leaving the birth date on this memorial from info on the gravestone. However I am acknowledging that the birth date may very well be 11/9/1836!
