Barnes Crawford Clark was the son of Alfred Clark and his wife, Nancy (maiden name unknown). By 1835, the family was in Texas, where Alfred Clark's will was probated in Fannin County. Nancy remarried to John Ussery, who died in January 1839. She then married John McMills, and the family was living in Lincoln County, Tennessee during the 1850 Census enumeration. On December 4, 1856, Barnes Crawford (B.C.) Clark married Ara Matilda Landers in Harrison County, Texas. They were the parents of eleven children - John Crawford Clark, Christopher Columbus Clark, Sarah Alice Clark Burress, Alfred Marvin Clark, Arthur Barnes Clark, Cora Matilda Clark Middleton Caddell, William Newton Clark, Dod Franklin Clark, Lula Clark Gregg, Henry Morgan Clark, and George Everett Clark. The family moved to Wise County, Texas during the 1870's, where B.C. Clark lived out the remainder of his life. After his death, his widow, Ara Matilda, moved to Oklahoma with some of their children.
