Bill Stevenson Burgess, 95, of Moultrie, died Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at his home.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, March 18, 2016 at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ronald Barrett officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens.
Casketbearers will be Preston Burke, Ryan Burgess, Marc Burke, Phil Johnson, Luke Griffin, Bo Griffin and Danica Burgess.
Born June 13, 1920 in Pavo, Ga. he was the son of the late R.H. Burgess and Ela Cannon Burgess. He was a United States WWII Army veteran and a member of Ione Methodist Church. He was former owner and partner of Moultrie Electric Motor Service for 25 years, later he was employed with Beadles Lumber Company and Riverside Manufacturing Company. His family remembers how he was a patient and loving father, a loving husband, a hard worker and an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Bill and Mrs. Lois raised their children in a Christian home full of love.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Sloan Burgess.
Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Johnson and husband Phil of Moultrie, Teresa Burke and husband Marc of Hosford, Fla.; a son, Jody Burgess and wife Pam of Moultrie; three grandchildren, Samantha Johnson, Ryan Burgess and Preston Burke; five great-grandchildren, Luke Griffin, Bo Griffin, Danica Burgess, Preslie Burke and Lydia Johnson; a brother, Louis Hill of Chipley, Fla.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Cobb Funeral Chapel.
