He died from an aneursym Thursday Morning at Muskogee Regional Medical Center.
He was a principal at Pershing elementary school at Muskogee Okla. He was principal at Riverside Elementary from 1982-84 when he retired. He began teaching in 1943 in Arkansas where he taught for nine years. He came to Muskogee in 1952 as a high school history teacher. He was named principal at Edison Elementary school in 1957. He was an administrator for 25 years. He was appointed principal at Franklin Elementary in 1958 and in 1970 principal at Sequoyah Elementary and in 1972 he was named principal at Pershing. He retired in 1984. He was principal at Riverside at time of retirement. He had been principal there since 1982. They closed the building. He began teaching in Ark. in 1943 and taught 9 years there before coming to Muskogee in 1952. Before moving to Muskogee he was teacher and principal at DeWitt, Ark. He was teacher at Central(Muskogee) as a history teacher before moving into administration at several elementary schools. he was first named as a principal in Muskogee for Edison Elementary in 1957. Franklin in 1958,Sequoyah in 1970 and in 1972 Pershing.He went to Riverside in 1982.
He graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway (now UCA) with a BS in Education on May 19 1946 3pm Sunday. He graduated from U of A with Educational Admin degree along with Merle Landers on Sat. Feb 2, 1952.
George played the organ and piano at the First United Methodist Church in Muskogee Okla
George belonged to the Elks Club lodge No 517.
Officiating at his funeral service at First United Methodist church in Muskogee was Rev. Quitman McCrory. It was held at 11 am on Sept 15 1986. George received his teaching degree from Peabody College now Vanderbilt University.
He was a member of First United Methodist in Muskogee, where he served on administrative board,He was a member of Oklahoma Education Association, Kiwanis, National Education Association, Optimist club of which he was past president and member of the Lions Club in Arkansas.
George had a unique laugh. He always laughed with people never at them. It was a genuine laugh. George when he was younger wanted to be a preacher.
