Daughter of Isaac Henry Denny and Adeline Naomi "Oma" Owenby Denny.

Mae Denny was born in Macon County, NC; her birth record records her name was "Mae D. Denny," the daughter of I.H. Denny and Oma Owenby.

The census shows her at ages 8 and 18 in Nantahala, Macon, NC. By 1935, she has married Frank Monroe a Roper and they have one son born in 1936., Dale Boyce Roper. The couple lived at Flats when their 4 children were born (Dale Boyce, Mickey Colbert, Dover James (Sr.), Violet Dawn).

On her husband's WW2 Draft Registration, he lists her as "May Monnie Roper" and gave an address of Flats, NC.

After her husband died,she lived in Andrews, Cherokee County, NC and that is where she passed on into Heaven also.

MAE DENNY ROPER

NANTAHALA - Mae Denny Roper, 87, of Nantahala, died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, at a Andrews nursing home. She was a native of Macon County, a homemaker and a member of the Briartown Baptist Church.

She was the daughter of the late Isaac Henry and Oma Adeline Owenby Denny. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Monroe Roper and two sons, Dale and Dover Roper. She is survived by a son and his wife, Mickey and Alean Roper of Nantahala; a daughter and her husband, Violet and Winston DeVore of Nantahala; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Roper of Topton; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Hill Baptist Church in Nantahala with the Rev. Beuford Owenby officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Nantahala.

Pallbearers will be Rick DeVore, Kirby Styles, Bobby Roper, John LaDouceur, Joe Raper and Denver Denny. Honorary pallbearers are Chuck Roper and A.J. Schnuphase. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Townson Rose Chapel in Andrews, where the body will remain until placed In the church 30 minutes prior to services. Townson Rose Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
