Frank Monroe Roper was born in West's Mills, Macon, NC, the son of James Alexander Roper and Margaret Alice "Alice" Cansler.

In 1920 his family is shown living in Cowee, Macon County, NC and he is 10 years old. By 1935 he has married Mae D Denny. They lived in Nantahala area of Macon County, more specifically, in Flats, NC. On his WWI Draft record, lists her name as "May Monnie Roper."

Their first child, Boyce Dale, was born in 1936 and they had 3 more children: Colbert, Dover James (Sr), Violet Dawn.

Frank was a lumberman and worked for Utah Construction Company in Nantahala, NC. Also, he fought in the Army in WWII, having enlisted and trained at Fort Bragg in Cumberland County, NC and later was discharged on Novemer 25, 1945. He was 5'6" and weighed 175 pounds, had gray eyes, red hair, and a ruddy complexion.

He was living in Macon County when he passed away in Andrews, Cherokee County, NC at the age of 77.
