Daughter of Carl John Nelson (Nilsson)
(also known as Charles John Nelson) &
Christina Carolina Olofsdotter

Marriage
To Edwin Daniel Cox
In 1890 at Omaha, Douglas, Nebraska

A lovely, hard-working lady.

Five-year-old Selma came from Sweden to America in 1869, with her parents and brothers, John Alfred & Andrew Sven. They settled in Iowa, first at Polk twp (near Ottumwa) and then at Lost Grove twp (near Harcourt), Iowa.

Her husband, Edwin Cox, also hard-working, was born in Oct 1869 at Adams Mills, Muskingum, Ohio (per daughter Margaret). They met and married in about 1890 in Omaha where their children Harley, Vogle, Pearl, William and Margaret "Peggy" were born. Husband Edwin worked as a tinner, a plumber, and a miner. In 1905, Selma moved with their children to Lead, South Dakota where her husband had already been working in the mines for 4 to 5 years to feed the family.

Tragedy struck the family hard between 1917 & 1919. Her husband died in about 1917, son Vogle in Oct 1918, son Harley in Feb 1919, and son William in June 1919. Vogle & Harley died in World War I boot camps, victims of the deadly Spanish Flu pandemic, while William, discharged from the Navy because of illness (perhaps Spanish Flu), died from pneumonia months later at home.

Note
The parents of her son-in-law, George Astenius, are entombed in a mausoleum at Angeles Abbey.
