Born Dec. 22, 1835 in TN. Died Jan. 11, 1909. Buried in Atkisson Family Cemetery (a.k.a. Hellums Cemetery). Pvt. Co. C, 6th Regt. Missouri Cav. from Aug. 1, 1862 to Sept. 20, 1862 when, according to a Special Muster Roll he was "Discharged". He was the son of Jesse W. and Elizabeth Atkission. He married Sarah Adeline Freeman and they had 10 children William, Mary, Nancy, John, Susan, Nettie, Jesse, David, Pernecia and James. He enrolled in Hartsville, MO for a period of 3 years. On the Company Muster Roll for July & August 1862, he is listed as "Absent" and "On detached service, Springfield, MO. On the Company Muster Roll for September & October it states "Rejected by Surgeon on examination." On June 26, 1871 he received a certificate for his homestead, containing 160 acres, in Wright County, Mo.
