Catren (Catherine) Moon's husband John Moon III (1788-1850) donated the land for this cemetery on January 1, 1835, probably upon his wife's death. Thus, Catren is likely one of the first burials here. Four children born to this marriage are known by name (Rebecca, Sarah, Jacob, and Henry), but the 1830 census shows two more.

After Catren's death, John Moon married Agnes Hutt, the daughter of Jane Pounds and Charles Hutt. Catren's brother Bishop Barker married Jane Pounds's sister Elizabeth Pounds.
