Alexander Schafer of 555 No. Sparn, a farmer and resident of Grand Junction for 38 years, died Thursday in a two-car accident in Grand Junction. He was 76.
Born on Jan 8, 1897, in Russia, his family moved to the United States in 1900. He spent his childhood in Illinois and Fort Collins.
He married Clara Elsie Weitzel on March 17, 1919 at Winsor. She survives.
Mr. Schafer was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and an Army veteran of World War I. His interest included hunting and fishing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Delbert Smith of Grand Junction, five sons, LaVern of Phoenix, Urban of Grand Junction, Richard of Collbran, Dean of Phoenix and Lawrence of Fredricks, Md., a brother; six sisters; 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
