Eugene Bridges Allen was born at Floral City in Citrus County, FL in 1886. His parents were Lucy McNabb-Allen and Jesse Wesley Allen, Married February 28, 1866 in Putnam Co, FL. JW Allen, USA Veteran, is buried at the Miami City Cemetery in the Civil War Memorial Circle. Lucy (McNabb) Allen is a direct decendant of Stephen Hopkins, a 1609 Jamestowne resident and 1620 Mayflower Passenger & Mayflower Compact signer. She is buried in Hills of Rest Cemetary - Floral CIty, FL. Eugene met and married Rema Maude Lawton from New Orlean, LA. They had one child, a daughter, Mildred Lenora Allen. Mildred was born in Miami-1918; attended Miami Edison High School; married William B Leonard; moved to Ft Lauderdale and had three children, Leslie, Mickie, Jerald-1952-2008. Mildred died in Ft Lauderdale, FL in 2008 and buried in Evergreen Cemetery. Eugene spent his life and career working on the Florida East Coast Railway as a conductor. He rode the rails from Jacksonville to Key West. In 1935 he rode the last train to key West just before the hurricane that tore out the tracks, never to be replaced. He retired with a gold watch and full pension and moved to Fort Lauderdale to be near his only child, Mildred. Eugene's love was baseball. He enjoyed listening to the games on his radio.
