Charles Stanton Verret 86, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2016, in The Meadow Nursing Home in Orange, Texas. Charles was born to Eve Ruth and Joe A. Verret on September 8, 1929, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Raised and graduated High School in Port Arthur, Texas. When he was a junior in High School he joined the U.S. Navel Reserve Unit and served 3 years 10 months and 12 days.

After graduating High School electrical apprentice training at the Texas Plant in Port Arthur. In March, 1953 was drafted into the U.S. Army, Fort Sam Houston, Texas where he was issued equipment and assignment to basic training at Camp Chaffee, Fort Smith Arkansas. Completed basic training out on the "General" Hugh F. Gaffey" to Camp Drake, Japan.

From Japan he was shipped to Inchon, South Korea and then to Ascom City, Assign to the 24th Infantry Division, Head Quarter Battery 52nd Field Artillery Battalion, assign to the 21st Infantry Regiment Combat 1st Team Battalion in the " Delta Red" liaison unit as a communications field wireman. Charles was in Kumsong, North Korea in February, 1952 when the 24th was replaced by the 40th Division and return to Japan. The 52nd was assigned to Camp Youghans, Yamagata, Japan from where he rotated back to Fort Sam Houston, Texas in February, 1953 and was Honorably Discharged on March 6, 1953.His rank Privet First Class.He earned the following Ribbons " Army of Occupation Medal" (Japan) "Korean SVC Medal W/2 Bronze SVC Stars" " United Nations SVC Medal" and Presidential Unit Award. After discharge from the Army, he returned to his work place "Texaco". In November,1953 was offered employment for a overseas job in Venezuela, South America for Foster Wheeler Crop. Which he accepted after completing the assignment in Venezuela, He was offered employment with the Lummus Corp. in Ponce Porto Rico. After completing this assignment he worked as a service electrician for Stone burner Electrical IBEW479 in Port Arthur. In March, 1970 Lummis once again contacted me to work for them in Guatemala Central America. After completing this assignment, they sent me to Virginia, Michigan, Georgia, Texas, Canada, Wyoming, New Jersey, Iraq (3 years) Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Venezuela, and Saudi Arabia which time I retired for good in 1991.

While in Venezuela, he brought his wife to be Betty Grace Simmons, to Venezuela, where he married her on December 23, 1954. On September 6, 1957 my daughter Deborah Kay Verret was born and on April 20, 959 my son Charles Jr was born.

He is survived by his son Charles S. Verret, Jr. (Butch) and wife Kathy of Port Arthur, his daughter Deborah Verret and partner Susan Rushing of Orange, Texas, his sister Carolyn Phelps Miller of Orange, Texas, and his 2 grandchildren: Jason Verret and Lauren Verret. He is preceded in death by his wife Betty Verret of Hemphill.

Visitation will be from 10:00AM until 12:00PM, Saturday, March 5, 2016, in the Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 3:00PM, Saturday, March 5, 2016, in the Greenlawn Memorial Park in Port Arthur, Texas.
