The Boeing 747 exploded 12 minutes after takeoff from John F. Kennedy International Airport. It was a scheduled international passenger flight to Rome, with a stopover in Paris.
All 230 people on board died in the crash.

He was among a group of students from the Montoursville High school French club on a trip to Paris. He had been a straight A student since first grade. As well as beign in the French clbu he also ran on the track team, played soccer, and was active in the History and Spanish clubs. He won a scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania and was looking to major in either engineering or psychology.
