Our town mourns the death of her oldest citizen Maj R N Walden died last Friday evening and was buried the following day in the City cemetery. The cortege that followed his remains to the grave was large and composed of all classes colors and ages. After the body was put in the vault the impressive burial service of the Methodist Church was read by L Henley Grubb' with a short address on the life and virtues of the deceased. Major Walden was nearly 80 years old and been been a resident of the town about 60 years. He had served two terms in the Legislature and in various other official positions with credit to himself and satisfaction to the people. He was a man of strong convictions independent in his views and bold and unreserved in his utterances. He enjoyed the respect and confidence of those with whom be had done business for years and his death is lamented by all.

He died at the Commercial Hotel in downtown Decatur. The hotel was owned by his son Daniel. Gravestone is likely buried possibly in the Cantwell section of cemetery
