Roy Kenneth Abbott was born April 22, 1930 and went home to be with the Lord on March 3, 2016 reaching the age of 85 years. He was the son of the late Willie and Vianna (Criswell) Abbott.

He was united in marriage to Christine Kennedy on July 16, 1960. They were happily married for 53 years.

He is survived by: his sister, Myrtie (Hoyt, deceased) Parsley of Campbellsville, KY; sisters-in-law, Stella Abbott of Monticello and Hazel Abbott of Somerset; and his nephew Wade Abbott of Lexington.

He was preceded in death by his wife Christine Abbott, his twin brother Robert Abbott, and brother Ralph Abbott.

He was a longtime member of the Monticello United Methodist Church.

He was also a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army National Guard, Battery C. 623rd FABN and attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class.

Roy worked at the Cumberland Dairy's Downtown Supermarket and retired from Save-A-Lot after several years as the assistant manager.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 6, 2016 after 5pm in the chapel of the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home and again on Monday, March 7, 2016 from 7am-11am at the Monticello United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11am Monday at the church. Burial will follow in the Elk Spring Cemetery.

Military Honors will be performed by DAV Chapter 105.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to: Hospice of Lake Cumberland or the Monticello United Methodist Church.
