The son of Jacob & Elizabeth (Baublitz) Senft, in 1860 he was a laborer living with and/or working for farmer Jacob Wambaugh in West Manchester Township, York County, Pennsylvania, but his family lived in nearby North Codorus Township. He married Leah Zartman May 12, 1862, and fathered the children you see linked below.

A Civil War veteran, he was drafted in York County November 11, 1862 (with the possibility that he enlisted as a substitute), mustered into federal service at York November 13 as a private with Co. D, 166th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company July 28, 1863.

In 1890, he lived in North Codorus Township, York County, where he died from "tubercular peritonitis."
