Alicia (Hulsether) Ahrens, age 85, of Brainerd, won her battle with dementia on March 9, 2016,at Good Samaritan Society - Woodland. She was born on May 23, 1930 in Dickinson, ND to Stanley and Agnes (Boknecht) Gelder. Alicia attended high school in Fargo, ND and graduated from Concordia College. She married Edwin B. Hulsether on December 23, 1951, and moved to Brainerd in 1967. She was employed as a substitute school teacher and later at the Brainerd Dispatch. She was widowed in 1986, and married Harold (Bud) Ahrens in 1994 only to be widowed again in 1999. Alicia was member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, was an accomplished pianist, an avid dancer, enjoyed golfing and long brisk walks, and was a skilled and tactful bridge player.
Alicia is survived by 3 sons, Todd (Gloria) Hulsether of Fargo, ND, Jeff (Judy) Hulsether of Brainerd, and Brad (Claire) Hulsether of Columbus, OH; 2-sisters, Edith Keough of San Antonio, TX, and Marjorie Peterson of Bloomington, MN; 6-grandchildren, Christopher (Nicole) Schoepke), Matthew, Brice and Travis Hulsether, Britta (Mike) Duncan, and Jordyn (Eric) Carter; and 2-great grandchildren, Jackson Duncan and William Carter, and a special friend Al Tschida.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Edwin Hulsether, husband, Harold (Bud) Ahrens; sister, Patricia DeWitt of Wenatchee, WA, and grandson, Cameron Hulsether.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 15, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brainerd. Visitation will be at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd from 5-7 p.m., Monday March 14th and will continue the hour before services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Brained.
