Harold Francis, 87, of Phelps, died Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center, Phelps.
He was born in Freeburn, Jan. 5, 1929, the son of the late Strother Francis and Dixie Mayhorn Francis.
He was a coal miner, having worked for Kentucky Carbon Coal "Ken-Car"; was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving during World War II, and was a member and elder of the Delorme Bible Church.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Jean Ward Francis; one son, Mike Francis (Cindy) of Johnstown, Ohio; four daughters, Donna Smith (Clarence) and Linda Wolford, both of Phelps, Joyce Casey of Kimper and Trish Litafik (Mike) of Pikeville; one sister, Betty Moore (Ernie) of Riverdale, Ga.; 10 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at noon Tuesday, March 8, in the Phelps Funeral Home Chapel with Clarence Smith officiating. Entombment followed in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy. Arrangements were under direction of Phelps Funeral Services.
Pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandsons.
