1st Lieutenant Edward David Baker was a pilot in the 96th Aero Squadron during WWI. This Squadron was the first in the United Air Service to have bombardment as its sole mission. The Squadron was based at Amanty, France. Baker was assigned to the Squadron on September 12, 1918, and piloted several bombing raids in a Breguet 14 bomber. He died on October 24, 1918, when the airplane he was flying experienced a malfunction and crashed at the Rumont airdrome.
