Edward D. Absten ("Dennie," "Slim"), 76, of Crown Hill, Putnam County, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 following a long illness. He was a retired carpenter and farmer.

Born Feb. 19, 1940, he was the son of the late Adam and Hazel Runion Absten. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Delmer ("Dake," "Moe"), and an infant brother, Tommy.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Katherine "Kitty" Slate Absten. Also left to cherish his memory are his sons, Edward L. (Teresa) Absten of Eleanor and Timothy A. (Cheri) Absten of Red House; daughter, Darry M. (Lee) Casto of Bancroft; six grandchildren, Harlan (Nichole) Casto, Tressa (Kyle) Chapman, Adam (Ashley) Absten, Amber Absten, Meagan Absten and Josh Absten; six great-grandchildren, Kayden, Liam, Lilly, Adelyn, Brook and Jayce; one brother, Edsel (Yvonne) Absten; six sisters, Ruth Reed, Rosalee (Leroy) Harrison, Norma (Manny) Moles, Luella Deweese, Deanna (Bill) Deweese and Eva (Tim) Noffsinger; lots of nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at Raynes Funeral Home (Eleanor Chapel) with Harlan Casto, Pastor Mike Crago and Pastor Jeff Arthur officiating. Entombment will follow in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service, at the Eleanor Chapel.
