(The Rock Island Argus - May 7, 1907)

Aledo, May 7 - Ralph Taliaferro of Houston, Tex., died Sunday night from the taking of muriatic acid, the deed resulting from a fit of despondency owing to the death of his mother, Mrs. Mary A. Taliaferro, a former resident of Aledo. The suicide was the son of B. F. Taliaferro. He had brought the body of his mother here from Texas for burial. He was about 45 years of age.

(The Rock Island Argus - May 10, 1907)

Ralph E. Taliaferro, whose suicide at Aledo Sunday has been noted previously in The Argus, was once a resident of this city and married a Rock Island girl, Miss Jessie K. Sinnett. He was for a number of years employed as salesman in Crampton's book store and later went into the furnishing business at the corner of Eighteenth street and Second avenue. About seventeen years ago he left this city, going first to Aledo and from there to Chicago. For the last two years he had made his home at Houston, Tex. Mr. Taliaferro had brought the remains of his mother from the southwest for burial at Aledo and was at the home of W. A. Lorimer when he committed suicide. He attempted to cut his throat with a razor after having taken the contents of a bottle of formalin and another of muriatic acid. He was born at Keithsburg and was 52 years of age. His former wife, who secured a divorce some years ago, now lives at Los Angeles, Cal. Their son, Francis S. Taliaferro lives in Rock Island.
