James D. Grant, 73, an Ellensburg resident since 1923, died Sunday at Kittitas Valley Community Hospital.
Born in Seattle on February 22, 1911, Mr. Grant came to Ellensburg from McKenna, Wa., A truck driver, he had worked for Ward Rugh and for the Big Bend Transport Co., for many years. Before he retired 10 years ago, Mr. Grant had worked for the Block Distributing Co. in Yakima.
Mr. Grant, who married Thelma Stilwell in Seattle on November 23, 1938, was a member of the Methodist Church, the Elks Lodge, the Teamsters Local Union No. 524 and served on the advisory board of Silver Circle. Mr. Grant, who was an avid sports fan, enjoyed watching basketball and also enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma, from Ellensburg; two sons, J. Dale Grant, of Auburn, and Keith Grant, of Missoula, Mont.; a brother, Kenneth Grant, Escondido, Ca., and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 P.M. Wednesday at Evenson Chapel with The Rev. Jim Finkbeiner officiating. Burial will follow at the I.O.O.F. cemetery. The family suggests that memorials be sent to the Silver Circle Davenport fund, in care of Emma Utz of 506 S. Pine in Ellensburg or to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center at 1124 Columbia, Seattle, 96104
