Edward was the son of Francis R LaGrange and Alice Doyle and was raised in Syracuse, New York.
He was a Master Mason (bricklayer) and around 1903 he moved to Portsmouth, NH with his Uncle, John Doyle & family to work on a project. He worked on several construction projects in that area including some at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, ME.
He met his future wife in Portsmouth and on 26 November 1902 in the Immaculate Conception church he married
Mary Adelaide Flynn
He then moved to Lawrence, MA where worked on the building of the Wood Mill which became the largest worsted mill in the world.

My grandpa loved listening to the Red Sox on the radio and I would sit on the arm of his morris chair listening to the games with him. If I was outside playing I'd keep pestering him at the window asking "Grandpa, what's the score?" or "Are we winning yet?".
After I built a fireplace in our home, a cousin who saw it said "Grandpa must have been guiding your hand". He was as I'd never, until that time, held a level in my hand!!
