She was born April 19, 1925 in Truax, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Bertha (Rhoads) Malin. Opal graduated from Centerville High School.
Opal was united in marriage to John Walden in Centerville, Iowa on December 25, 1944. They celebrated sixty five years of marriage until John's passing on October 14, 2010.
Opal worked in the retail industry throughout her lifetime in both Illinois and Iowa, retiring at the age of seventy seven.
She had many passions in life, including sewing, playing the organ, and painting, especially country scenery. Moreover, Opal was known to be a lover of all dogs. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Centerville.
Opal is survived by her three children, Sandra (Roger) Rees of Centerville, Iowa, Randy (Debi) Walden of Rockford, Illinois, and Denise Stevens of Rockford, Illinois; as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; a son, John Walden; and a brother, Russell Malin.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Friday, March 11, 2016 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Rev. Lloyd Johnston officiating. Entombment will follow at a later date at the Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Rockford, Illinois. A visitation will take place on Friday, March 11, 2016 at Lange Funeral Home, with the family greeting friends from 11AM-1 PM.
