QUINCY RESIDENT, DIES


Was One of Oldest Members of
St. Boniface and Active Along
Many Lines of Work.


Mrs. Catherine Lubbe, for seventy-one years a resident of Quincy, died at her home, 1241 Park Place, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, aged 89 years. Mrs. Lubbe had been in good health until about ten days ago, and had been unusually active and vigorous for one of her years. The ministrations of her children had made her later years especially comfortable and happy, and at the end she was surrounded by all of her sons and daughters and her grandchildren.

Mrs. Lubbe was born March 13, 1835 in the city of Ankum, Hanover, Germany. She was a daughter of Gerhard and Margaretha Kitzero, who with their family of four sons and three daughters, of which Mrs. Lubbe was the youngest, came to this country in the year 1837, settling in Louisville, Ky.

Long in Quincy.

Coming to Quincy with her mother in 1853, she was married in St. Boniface church to Bernard Lubbe, a resident of Quincy since 1844. This union was blessed with seven sons and four daughters, three dying in infancy. Mr. Lubbe died in 1880. Three sons, Clemens A., Henry B., and Herman J. Lubbe died within the past 18 years. The surviving children are: George A. Lubbe of Peoria, Ill.; Bernard A. Lubbe of The Dalles, Ore.; Clara E., Mamie B., and Frances J. Lubbe, of this city.

The surviving grandchildren are Edward C. Lubbe of Riverside, Cal., a son of the late Henry B. Lubbe; Charles Kimball Lubbe of Peoria; Richard B., Robert J., Margaret H. and Mary Louise, children of the late Herman J. Lubbe, of St. Louis, and Louise Catherine Lubbe of The Dalles, Ore.

Active in St. Boniface.

Mrs. Lubbe was one of the oldest members of St. Boniface church, and was active in its work. She was a charter member of the St. Elizabeth Altar society, and the Tertiary of St. Mary's Hospital society, St. Stephen's Aid society, St. Vincent's Home and St. Aloysius Orphan societies, and the Quincy Historical society.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 9:30 from the residence and at 10 o'clock from St. Boniface church. Interment will be in St. Boniface cemetery.

FUNERALS

Mrs. Catherine Lubbe.

Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Lubbe were held at 9:30 o'clock Tuesday morning at the home, 1241 Park Place, and at 10 o'clock at the St. Boniface Catholic church. Solemn requiem mass was celebrated, Fr. H. B. Degenhardt acting as celebrant, Fr. Ferdinan as deacon and Fr. Benice as sub-deacon. Fr. F. E. Niebling was master of ceremonies. The priests in the sanctuary were Fr. Link, of Alton, Ill., and Fr. Anthony, Fr. Kreckenberg, Fr. Hummert and Fr. Vincent.

The pew in the church which had been occupied by Mrs. Lubbe for the last seventy-one years was draped with black and decorated with white roses commemorating her long and faithful service to the St. Boniface church. The choir sang for the services.

Burial was in the St. Boniface cemetery, where Fr. Neibling officiated and the priests who occupied the sanctuary at the church sang for the committal services.

The pallbearers were Frank Tenk, Rudolph Tenk, Fred Moeller, Julius Kespohl, Herman Heintz and Arnold V. Scott.

Relatives and friends from out of the city who attended the services were: Mr. and Mrs. George A. Lubbe and son, Charles Kimball Lubbe, of Peoria; Bernard A. Lubbe and daughter, Louise Catherine Lubbe, of The Dalles, Ore.; Mrs. Herman J. Lubbe and four children, Richard, Robert, Margaret and Mary Louise Lubbe, of St. Louis; Edward Charles Lubbe, of Riverside, Cal.; and Mrs. George Tivy, of St. Louis.
