END COMES SATURDAY MORNING

Was Engaged In The Jewelry Business In Sidney For Forty Years and Long Identified With The Business And Civic Life Of The City.

W. O. Amann, for many years one of the best known business men of this city, died at his home at No. 332 south Main avenue Saturday morning at 11:15 o'clock from the results of a stroke of apoplexy suffered several days ago.

Mr. Amann had been in failing health for some time and his death had been expected for the past few days.

With the passing of Mr. Aman, Sidney has lost another of her leading citizens. Until his retirement from the jewelry business in 1921 when the business was purchased by A. Thoma and Sons, he had conducted a jewelry store in this city for forty years.

Mr. Amann was born in Sidney, February 17, 1855, and has spent his entire life as a resident of the city, with the exception of two years spent in Ft. Wayne, a son of Ferdinand and Catharine Wagner Amann. He was reared in Sidney and during his youth attended the public and parochial schools. He learned the watch making trade with the late C. Schuerer and afterwards purchased his instructor's business which he continued along with the jewelry business until he retired several years ago.

Mr. Amann married Miss Catherine Robertson, who survives him.

He was a devout member of the Holy Angels Church where he was a regular attendant until his health failed him.

He had always taken a keen interest in politics, believing in the principles of the Democratic party. He has served as delegate to various party conventions and for twelve years was chairman of the Democratic judicial district which included Shelby, Auglaize, Mercer and Shelby counties.

Besides his wife, he is survived by only one brother of the Amann family who had long been prominent residents of the city, (unreadable) P. Amann, of Indianapolis, and a half sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Bower, of Columbus.

Mr. Amann had always taken a deep interest in the business, civic and social life of the city.

He was a great lover of (unreadable) and flowers, his flower garden if his home being a most beautiful one. In his home, which he loved most dearly, he was a (unreadable) host and during his health was most happy when he was (unreadable) society of his friends and associates.

Friends desiring to view his remains can do so by calling Monday afternoon or evening.

The funeral services will probably be held Tuesday morning.
