Emma Delpy is the daughter of Pierre Delpy and Marie Rabaute, one of the founders of Vista, California, arriving there from France in 1875. Emma was born in an early adobe house at what is now the well-known Delpy Corners of Vista.

John Griffin Hayes was the son of Judge J. Chauncey Hayes and Dona Felipa Marron of Oceanside,California.

Judge J. Chauncey Hayes was born in Los Angeles, Apri1 27, 1853, the son of Judge Benjamin Hayes and Emily Martha Chauncey.

Benjamin Hayes came to California from Baltimore crossing the country on mule back with the wagon trains. He arrived in Los Angeles in early 1850 and in February of that year, while California was still a territory, Mr. Hayes was elected County Attorney, a prosecuting officer then provided law. At the election of 1852, he became the first Judge of the Southern District of California, including the counties of Los Angeles and San Diego.

Dona Felipa Marron was the daughter Don Sylvester Marron of Rancho Agua Hedionda, a Spanish land grant from the King of Spain to Captain Juan Maria Marron for his faithful service to the Crown. Rancho Agua Hedionda was located in the northern portion of San Diego County.

Judge Benjamin Hayes wrote several books. His "Pioneer Notes from the Diaries of Judge Benjamin Hayes" contains a wealth of information about early California history. He was commissioned by the Centennial Committee of 1876 to write a section of "An Historical Sketch of Los Angeles County" along with Col. J. J. Warner and Dr. J. P. Widney. Both of these are now key reference documents for researchers and historians of the period.
