George Randel Atkinson was born April 22, 1919 to Isabelle and Sam Atkinson in Powell, Texas. He moved to Itasca at the age of 12 where he met the love of his life, Elnorane Hilton. They were married in 1941 and recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. George served his country for 3 years in the U.S. Army during WWII. George farmed land in and around Itasca and enjoyed seeing the fruits of his labor. As a residential paint contractor, he gave a new coat of paint to many homes in Itasca. George was a people person and loved to entertain and country western dance. He was always up for a party, never lost his wit and tickled everyone with his stories. George was active in the Lions Club and was named Lion of the Year. He and Elnorane loved Itasca and enthusiastically served their community. For more than 10 years, George and Elnorane delivered Meals on Wheels. George and Elnorane were recognized by the Rotary Club as Outstanding Citizens of the Year. George joined the Itasca Methodist Church as a young man. He loved the Lord and served the church in many capacities particularly the maintenance--keeping everything working & looking good. At almost 97, George went to be with the Lord March 5, 2016.
