UNION - Edna Smith Johnson, 77, of 107 Catherine St. died Sept. 29, 2000, at her home following a brief illness.

She was the widow of Malcolm R. Johnson and daughter of the late Elmer and Leona Leatherwood Smith.

She was a member of McCutchen Memorial Presbyterian Church and was retired from Torrington Company, Tyger River Plant.

Survivors include three daughters, Kathryn Fraim of the home, Ruby Stoner of Enoree and Linda Marvin of Manhattan, Kan.; six sisters, Doris Nelmes of Cuba, Ill., Wanda Mitchell of Union, Anne Hall of Conover, N.C., Sue Saviluoto of Ponte Verde Beach, Fla., Helen Miller of Reno, Nev., and Betty Mann of Burlington, N.C.; two brothers, Bill Smith of Canton, Ill., and Howard Smith of Greenville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6-8:30 p.m. at Holcombe Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at McCutchen Memorial Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Fred Thompson. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home.

The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
