Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Burial will be in Washington Cemetery.
Mr. Bentley was born Oct. 7, 1920, at Forest Green, the son of Richard T. and Mary Cecile Fife Bentley.
He graduated from Glasgow High School in 1938 and from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1942. He took ROTC at the University of Missouri and entered the U.S. Army as a second lieutenant. He served with General George Patton’s Third Army.
After four years of service, he left as a captain and returned to the University of Missouri and earned a second degree in Journalism.
Richard was a partner in the Glasgow Missourian from 1950 to 1953, and later worked for the Kansas City Star. After working as a general manager for several newspaper companies, Richard moved to California and spent 20 years with Lesher Newspaper Inc. in the San Francisco area. In 1952, he was president of the Central Missouri Press Association and was first Vice-President of the Arkansas Press Association in 1961.
On Aug. 18, 1975, he married Vivian L. Earickson. Following retirement, they returned to the Glasgow community in 1986.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian Bentley, of the home; one brother, Leon Bentley of Paradise Valley, Ariz.; one niece, Marty Hinds; three nephews, Barton Bentley, Dierks Bentley, Fife Bentley; and several cousins.
