He was born Oct. 27, 1927 in Cleveland, and had lived most of his life in Monroeville.
He was 1946 graduate of Monroeville High School and was an Army veteran, serving two years in Germany.
He was employed at the Croghan Colonial Bank for 40 years, retiring in 1992 as vice president.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Neuman Chapter 1117 of the Knights of Columbus and Sho-Loe-Man Post 547 of the American Legion.
He was an avid sports fan, he especially loved the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns. He loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren. He was respected in the community and a friend to many.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Deb and Dale Barnes of Monroeville, Mindy Donnamiller of Willard and Lori and Noah Koontz of Marysville; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Vicky Zipfel of Napersville, Ill.; nine grandchildren and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty in February of this year; and mother and stepfather, Corinne and Donald Butler.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe St., Monroeville, where Christian wake services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. A Christian burial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 66 Chapel St., Monroeville. The Rev. Kenneth J. Lill will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
