Dutch-Swedish industrialist. He emigrated as a youngster from the Netherlands to Marstrand, Sweden, with his family, which, with other Jewish immigrants, had been granted special privileges by the King of Sweden to settle there. He and a business partner named Aron Magnusson created a factory for kattun printing on cotton cloth which was very successful. This was in an area of Gothenburg called Aronsdal for the two of them. The factory eventually produced over 100,000 ells of printed cloth annually. In 1821, five years after opening his factory, King Carl XVI John of Sweden-Norway gave him a gold medal for his service to industry. He was also a major patriarch having 17 children with his wife, a daughter of the famous Jacob Marcus of Norrköping. One of his sons had a very early photo studio in Gothenburg, so that there are known portrait photographs of 13 of the 17 siblings. Two of his other sons were among the first students at the new Chalmers Technical College and Gothenburg Trade Institute.
