Branstiter, Dennis N. Retired newspaper copy editor, died October 14, 2009, of multiple myeloma at the University of Kansas Hospital. He was 68. Mr. Branstiter was born March 30, 1941, in Oconto, NE, the son of Beryl E. and Dorothy I. Branstiter. He grew up in Independence, MO, and attended William Chrisman High School. He received a bachelor of science degree in journalism from the William Allen White School of Journalism at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS. While at K.U., he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and Sigma Delta Chi, professional journalism society. He was a member of the Air Force Reserves. He worked briefly in Wichita, KS, for Cessna before returning to K.U., where he was deputy director of public relations for the university. In 1973, he joined the copy desk of the Minneapolis Star and worked for the Star-Tribune company until his retirement in 2003. He held a variety of positions at the newspaper. He was an expert in Native American and Southwestern art. He was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves many cousins and close friends. A celebration and remembrance of his life will be held from 1-4 p.m., Oct. 31, at the home in Kansas City. A later celebration and memorial will be held in Minneapolis, Minn.
