Pat was an ironworker by trade. He traveled throughout Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania for work. Eventually, he was promoted to Superintendent at American Bridge in Wexford, PA.
In April 1964, Sheldon was in Ohio heading to a job site when he was speeding and had an accident, which claimed his life. Details of the accident were told by Gladys's nephew to family descendants: "Pat Corrie died by driving his new Ford under the back of a semi-trailer in very dense fog, at a high rate of speed. He passed one truck, cut back in and struck the second one. Driver of the first truck said he was going too fast for the conditions... Aunt Gladys stopped her heart medicine and died less than 2 years later."
