October 5, 1976 - September 27, 2015

Christopher Ray "Chris" Popham, 39, Staff Sergeant, U.S. Army, passed away September 27, 2015 during military maneuvers at Ft. Irwin, California.

Funeral services were held October 11th with Military Honors at Ridout's Prattville Chapel.

Chris grew up in Prattville and was a graduate of Prattville High School. He was devoted to the service of his country and served three tours of duty in Iraq. His family, friends, community and country are deeply saddened by his loss.

He is survived by his three children; Amanda, Aubrey and Christopher Popham; his mother, Doris L. Popham; four sisters, Twin Sister Christye Davies and her husband Daniel, Debra Morris and her husband Ernest, Dana Gentry and her husband Mark, Sherry Williams, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other close family members and tons of loving friends.

Chris will be terrible missed by all!

Fort Carson officials Thursday identified a 38-year-old soldier who died Wednesday after being injured last week in a Stryker armored-vehicle crash in California.

Staff Sgt. Christopher Popham was assigned to the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division and was injured in a Stryker rollover during training Sept. 24.

The Army says the crash happened at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, Calif.

Popham was originally from Prattville, Ala., and entered the Army in September 2002.

"He deployed three times to Iraq during his 13 years in the Army," Fort Carson said in a news release. "He was a cavalry scout who arrived at Fort Carson on Jan. 10, 2015."
