Jack Thomas Kunz, 85, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2016, in Soda Springs, Idaho, of natural causes.

He was born May 2, 1930, in Georgetown, Idaho, to Franklin F. Kunz and Phyllis Hayes Kunz. He was the second of two sons.

Jack was raised and educated in Soda Springs, graduating from Soda Springs High School. He served in the U.S. Navy. On August 16, 1950, Jack married his sweetheart, Karma Gunnell, in the Salt Lake Temple. To this union four children were born: Karin, Suzanne, Nancy and Tim.

Jack worked for Monsanto Company for 34 years. He was a true cowboy and enjoyed many hours on a horse working cattle. He kept an immaculate yard and was an avid Utah Jazz fan. He was proud of his pioneer heritage and had an unequaled recollection of the area, the history and the people of Soda Springs. He loved to reminisce about the good old days.

Jack was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved the gospel and had a testimony of the Savior, Jesus Christ. He served in many callings including Elders Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, Bishop and Logan Temple Officiator. Jack loved his family and cherished spending time with them.

He is survived by his wife, Karma; daughters, Karin (Bob) Johnson, Suzanne (Phil) Young, all of Soda Springs, and Nancy (Darrell) Hubbard of Oceanside, CA; and son, Tim (Janice) Kunz of Star, ID, and sister-in-law, Gwen (Lallatin) Kunz, Salt Lake City, UT. Thirteen grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Gene, and his grandparents.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 7, 2016, at 12 noon in the Soda Springs 4th Ward Chapel on 281 East Hooper Ave. Visitations will be Sunday, March 6, 2016, from 6-7 pm at the Sims Funeral Home and prior to the services on Monday from 10-11:30 am at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS Humanitarian Services or the LDS Missionary Fund.
