Wayne Atkins of Madisonville, passed away at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 8, at UT Medical Center. He was a member of Rocky Springs Baptist Church; longtime owner and operator of Atkins Body Shop; a veteran of World War II; a member of Tellico Masonic Lodge #80 for 50 years; served on the Valley Bank Board of Directors; served on Monroe County Commission for eight years and Madisonville City Board for two years; and was mayor of Madisonville for eight years. On March 21, he would have celebrated his 58th wedding anniversary.

He was 79.

Preceded in death by: son, Douglas Wayne Atkins; parents, Ernest and Hazel Pack Atkins; brothers, Bill and Martin Atkins; and daughter-in-law, Lisa Atkins.

Survivors include: wife-Muriel Moses Atkins;

Daughter and son-in-law-Stacie and Randall Moser;

Son-Don Atkins;

Grandchildren-Chelsea and Megan Atkins and Christian and Seth Moser, all of Madisonville;

Brothers and sisters-in-law-Rankin and Mary Atkins and Charles and Sara Atkins, all of Madisonville; Gene and Glenda Atkins of Overland Park, Kan.; Eileen Atkins of Maryville; and Pegge Atkins of Madisonville;

Several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, in Biereley-Hale Chapel, with the Rev. Don Rockholt and Rev. Chad Kirkpatrick officiating. Interment will be in Haven Hill Memorial Gardens, with military honors provided by VFW Post #5156. Masonic service will be 1:45 p.m., before the funeral. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday. Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonville, in charge of arrangements.
