TYNER, N.C. - Ima Hunter Asbell, 86, of Route 1, a retired schoolteacher and insurance agent, died May 16, 1991, in her home.
Mrs. Asbell, a native of Perquimans County, retired from the Chowan County school system and from Blue Cross & Blue Shield. She was a member of Ballards Bridge Baptist Church and Chowan Baptist Association.
She was a charter member of Watermark Craft Center and taught tatting. She was an auxiliary member of Center Hill-Cross Roads Fire Department and was the widow of Thomas O. Asbell.
Survivors include three daughters, Anna Reeves of Stratford, N.J., Sara Epling of Waianae, Hawaii, and Jackie Dessoffy of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Eleanor Bass and Josephine Hunter, both of Hertford; a brother, John Hunter of Concord; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Ballards Bridge Baptist Church by the Rev. Danny Davis and the Rev. George Cooke. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Williford-Barham Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
