Marguerite June Parrish Behar, 97, a lifelong resident of Sour Lake passed away on Thursday February 25, 2016 in Sour Lake. Marguerite was born on June 1, 1918 in Sour Lake, Texas to her parents Walter Fletcher and Ida Belle Yount Parrish. At the age of five she moved into Sunny Side which is now a historical landmark. She was preceded in death by her parents. Marguerite was married to Harold John Behar of Tonkawa, Oklahoma on November 2, 1935 for over sixty-three years until the time of his death. Also preceding her in death was one son; Stephen Allan Behar.
Marguerite was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church of Sour Lake where she was a youth and adult sunday school teacher. She was the past Worthy Matron in the Sour Lake Order of Eastern Star Chapter #75 for over sixty years where she served not only as a member, but was the organist. She also served as President of The American Legion Auxiliary and the President of the Hardin –Jefferson PTA. She enjoyed making homemade quilts and loved her dog Buddy, who also perished with her. Marguerite is survived by her children; Diana Behar Griffin and husband Tom of Santa Fe, Texas, John Michael Behar and wife Glenda of Sour Lake, and Walter Harlan Behar and wife Ursula of Sour Lake. Also surviving Mrs. Behar are six grandchildren; Jamie Lea Griffin, Mark Allen Behar, Michelle Griffin, Michael Behar, Gari Lynita Cotton, Kristi Leigh Berry, eight great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday March 5, 2016 from 12 noon until service time of 1:00 p.m. at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont. Officiating the services will be Pastor Judy Kelfstrom CLM.
