Cecil married Ruth Evelyn Higgins on June 22, 1912 in Matteson, Illinois, USA. Cecil and Ruth moved to Indianapolis in the early 1930's and lived at 440 S. Ritter, for many years. In the 1930's Cecil worked as a driver, and in the 1940 he worked as a millwright for the International Forester Company. In Feb. 1942 his nephew, Lanty Edward Altom, who also worked for the International Forester Co. as a draftsman, was killed in a car/train crash. Cecil retired from International Forester in the 1950's.
Cecil & Ruth had four children, Mary G Altom, Catherine M (married Mayne Davis) Davis, Evalyn Marie (Altom) Chancellor (1923 - 2004) and Merkle "Bud" (Ruth L. Fultz) Altom (1928 - 1994).

Mrs. Ruth Evelyn (Higgins) Altom - Services for Mrs. Ruth E. Altom, 82, 9225 Indian Creek Road South, died yesterday in a local nursing home. She was born at Lancaster, III, and had lived here 60 years. Mrs. Altom, widow of Cecil Altom, was a former member of the Cadle Tabernacle Choir. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Shirley Brothers Irving Hill Chapel, with burial in New Crown Cemetery. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Chancellor, and one son, Bud Altom, both of Indianapolis.
