Reverend LeMoyne Thomas "Tommy" Collum was born in Tiro, Ohio, on May 6, 1923, the son of the late James Carl and Arsadilla Mae (Ballinger) Collum.
Tom was a graduate of Marion Harding High School in the Class of 1941, and served in the U. S. Army in the European Threater in Normandy during World War II.
A man of strong faith who lived as he preached, Tom was an Ordained Elder in the Church of the Nazarene, serving as Pastor from 1946 until 1974 in Upper Sandusky, Utica, MacArthur, and Bellevue, Ohio. He worked at Fairfield Engineering from 1974 until his retirement. In his later years he also served at the Salem Church of God, Lee Street Holiness Church, and Shiloh Community Church in the Marion area. He will be remembered for his compassionate, caring, and "Christ-like" ways.
On June 7, 1942, Tom married his loving wife of over 64 years, Grace (Turner) Collum, at the Marion First Church of the Nazarene. A sweet natured man, Tom was affectionate with his wife and often wrote her poetry. Together they also enjoyed traveling the countryside by car or train, and especially visiting the Smoky Mountains.
A proud father of six daughters, Tom was very loving, patient, and accepting; he was "rock solid and always there for them." A wonderful role model, Tom found great joy in teasing and joking with his grandchildren, all the while still sharing his nostalgia for history.
With a good sense of humor about life, Tom regularly told friends and family he would "see you in the funny papers." He also enjoyed spending time on the computer and emailing his many friends, or getting ice cream at the "Red Caboose."
In addition to his wife, Tom will be missed by his six daughters Carol (Rick) Hostrup of Powell, Nancy (Mike) Kuhn of Columbus, Rosemary (Bruce) Atherton of Columbia, Missouri, Naomi (Jack) Chevalier of Marion, Barbara (Steve) Wood of Howard, and Joyce (Michael) Nelson of Marion; grandchildren Michelle Kuhn, Lori (Ron) Robbins, Gwen Marie Adkins, Monica Kuhn, Ron Looker II, Matthew (Kim) Nelson, Rachel and Emily Weaver, and Mark Thomas Nelson; step-grandchildren Scott (Jackie) Chevalier, Christina (James) Poole; great-grandchildren Tyler and Danielle Robbins; step-great-grandchildren Joshia, Jamee, Angel and Abigail Chevalier and Amanda Swartz; sister Mary M. Collum; special friends Carolyn and Wesley Looker, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law Opal Naomi (John) Broz, and a nephew Jack Broz.
