He was born October 11, 1918 in Smith Township, Whitley County a son of Josiah and Laura Belle (Steele) McCoy. His formative years were spent in Smith Township. He graduated from Churubusco High School in 1937.
On July 12, 1941 he was united in marriage to Mary V. Hull. With the exception of a short time during World War II when they lived in Warsaw, they made their home in Columbia City. In 1946 they moved to their home just south of Columbia City. Mrs. McCoy died July 31, 1982.
He worked a few years at Playtime Products in Warsaw and retired from Dana Weatherhead on January 1, 1981 with 31 years of service.
An avid motorcyclist most of his life, he was a Nascar fan in later years.
Surviving relatives include four children, Peggy E. (Glenn) Hawk of Ossian, Jesse N. (Lana) McCoy, Mary Ann (Marvin) Slusher and David L. (Glenda) McCoy, all of Columbia City; six grandchildren; several step grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and long time companion, Annabelle Brower of Columbia City.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles "Chick", Otho and Raymond; and three sisters, Martha Pressler, Goldie Addis and Kitty McCoy.
