In 1863, Inez went to live with her sister, Minnie who lived in or near the now extinct settlement of Meadville which was located near Hill Grove and Stith Valley in Meade County, Kentucky.
Inez Dickerson was married to Armstead L. Barnes in Meadville, Meade County, Kentucky on Dec. 25, 1866. The marriage was performed by Preston L. Williams at the residence of Inez's guardian Richard W. Wimp, who was married to Inez's sister, Minnie. Richard Wimp was an older brother to James A. Wimp, husband of Jemima E. Barnes. Jemima was a sister to Armstead L. Barnes.
In the spring of 1874, A. L., Inez and family move from Meade County, Kentucky to farm near his sister, Jemima Barnes Wimp, and the Blant D. Shacklett family, who had moved there in 1873. Blant is also a Barnes blood relative because A. L. is a Shacklett descendant. Later that year A. L. and Inez move back to Kentucky because of a terrible grasshopper plague that devours all the crops. A. L., Inez and family return to Kansas to farm in 1884, eventually buying a farm one mile east of the James and Jemima Wimp farm in Harvey County in 1886.
