John Hubert Ackley, 23, of Marion RR 4 was the victim of a hunting accident early today in Michigan. Details concerning his death were not yet known by the family at midmorning. Born Jan. 18, 1841, in Columbus, he was a son of Hubert and Magdalene Gast Ackley. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Elaine Trapp Ackley; a son, John Wallace; a daughter, Debbie Kay, and a sister and brother at home. The body was to be returned to Hughes-Hyll Mortuary later today. Funeral services for John H Ackley, victim of a hunting accident at Hassell, Mich., Monday morning, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Hughes-Hyll Mortuary here.Shortly after going into the hunting area with three companions he was struck in the neck by a shotgun blast, it was learned here. Accompanying him on the trip were Michael Miley of Marion and James Lonnie Trapp of Tifflin. Movement in the brush, mistaken for that of a deer, brought the shot that felled him. Mr Miley was carrying the weapon which was discharged.
Born Jan. 18, 1941, Mr. Ackley was a native of Columbus. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Marion and the Morral K. of P. Lodge.
Surviving are his widow,the former Miss Elaine Trapp; his parents; two children, John Wallace and Debbie Kay Ackley, and a sister Nancy Jean and brother Hubert at home. The residence of both families was at Marion RR 4. Rev. M. E. Hollensen will officiate for the services Thursday and burial will be in Grand Prairie Cemetery at Brush Ridge. Friends may call at the funeral home after Wednesday noon.
