He was the son of Charles and Rosene Golder Keefer. He married Della Mae MaGaughey. Joseph was a machinist with the Dubois Ironworks, also worked with the B.R. and P. railroads until he started the Keefer garage on Park Avenue. He and Della Mae had Donna, Marjorie and W. Elwood.
