Ila Lou Bonham Maddux

Ila L. Maddux, 66, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

She was born October 8, 1944 at Drumright, OK, the daughter of the late Robert E. and Louvia Schovey Bonham. Ila grew up in the Drumright community and graduated from high school there. She attended Oklahoma State University, Nebraska University, and graduated from Washburn University with an education degree. Mrs. Maddux received her Masters degree from Kansas State University in Manhattan.

Ila was a teacher for USD No. 321 for many years, teaching at the Rossville Grade School and retired in 2006. She was a member of the Silver Lake United Methodist Church and had been a past member of NEA and KNEA.

She was preceded in death by a brother Robert Bonham

On May 29, 1965 she was united in marriage to Larry D. Maddux at Drumright, OK. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Brett Maddux and Craig (Lynn) Maddux along with their daughter Kalia all of Silver Lake. She is also survived by her cousin, Peggy G. O'Leary of Orange, Texas.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday, May 6, 2011 at the Silver Lake Untied Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Walnut Hill Cemetery north of Silver Lake. Mrs. Maddux will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Piper Funeral Chapel in Rossville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Silver Lake United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society and sent in care of Piper Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 642, Rossville, Kansas 66533.
