Another Pioneer Taken
Catherine Stahl, daughter of Philip and Susana Stahl, was born near Milltown, Pa., May 6, 1832, and died at the home of her daughter, Clara O. Righter, Drummond, Okla., Aug. 12, '16, aged 84 years, three months and six days. When six years of age her parents moved to Ohio, where she grew to womanhood. In 1850 she was married to Benjamin Messamore. To this union was born one daughter, Mary E. Righter, of St. Joseph, Mo. In 1852 Mr. Messamore died and in 1854 she was married to Jacob W. Brown. To them were born five sons – Adam, of Miltonvale; John, who died in infancy; William, of Manhattan; Joel, of Edmonds, Okla.; and one daughter, Clara V. Righter. In early life she confessed her faith in the Savior and united with the United Brethren Church, but later in life she became a member of the Advent Christian Church, remaining a faithful member until she fell into the "sleep that knows no waking." They came to Kansas early in the 70s; homesteaded land in Cloud County, just north of Meredith, where the children grew to honorable manhood and womanhood. She leaves to mourn for her four sons and two daughters, 24 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, one sister and a host of friends. Her body was brought to Delphos, where the funeral took place from the Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, Aug. 15th, at 2:00 p.m. conducted by G.S. Smith. Four sons and two grandsons tenderly carried the remains of mother and lowered them into the grave while their tears fell upon the casket and the beautiful floral tributes that covered it. Rest in peace until the saying shall come to pass, "O grave, where is thy victory?"
